Potterspury History Group President Jack Clamp has compiled details of those
village residents who gave their lives in the First and Second World Wars.
The attached presentation, Potterspury's Fallen, records the site of the war graves of 20 servicemen who died between 1914 and 1919 and a further eight who perished during the Second World War.
During World War I, local newspapers published news of soldiers who were home on leave, those who were injured or taken prisoner and sadly, of those who had died. A selection of items about Potterspury's servicemen is also part of Jack's presentation.
Those interested in First World War letters and records should also visit David Marks's website Great War Diary, which is a the transcription of one soldier's diaries from 1914. Leonard Kilcoin served as a private with the 1st Battalion of the Irish Guards and his diary covers the five months from August 1914, from the excitement of call-up to the dispiriting retreat from Mons and the start of trench warfare.
